The very best adventure gear taken to the most amazing of places

The new Skoda Old Skool 36+ has loads of classic features including metal eyelets and faux crocodile skin.

Vans has teamed up with Carpet Company to create a limited-edition version of its Old Skool shoes.

The Skate Old Skool 36+ comes equipped with some head-turning features including a striking yellow and black colourway designed with fauc crocodile skin. You’ve also got custom labels with Arabic text, interchangeable velcro tongue patches and die-cut rubber logos on the waffle tread.

Founded by brothers Ayman and Osama Abdeldayem, the Baltimore-based Carpet Company was launched back in 2015, initially as a screenprinting project. Now, it continues to make eye-catching designs for shoes, skateboards and clothing – including this new team-up with Vans.

Available at ‘select’ skate shops from January 9, the Skate Old Skool 36+ – inspired by the original 1977 Style 36 – is limited to just 1,977 pairs with each getting an individual number for authenticity. But the technology underneath is anything but old-school as these shoes still receive impact-absorbing PopCush insoles, Sickstick rubber outsoles and rugged Duracap overlays.

Other features include single-wrap foxing, a comfort-boosting padded tongue and hard-wearing metal eyelets which should help these Old Skools to take a beating, as well as look good.

To celebrate the launch, Vans and Carpet Company have created a video lookbook which investigates where the icons of skate and music culture might have ended up had the original Vans Old Skool never been created in 1977. It features stars such as J Mascis, Tony Alva and Zion Wight – among others.
