The very best adventure gear taken to the most amazing of places

Garmin has introduced a new addition to its Instinct range of smartwatches.

Unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, the new Instinct 3 comes equipped with a bright AMOLED or solar-powered screen for ‘maximum battery life’, according to Garmin.

It’s all built within a metal-reinforced bezel and fibre-reinforced polymer case with a scratch-resistant display. Garmin says that the new Instinct 3 is also built for thermal and shock resistance as well as being waterproof rated to 100 metres.

Available in 45mm and 50mm sizes – as well as colourways such as Black, Neotropic and a special Neotropic and Twilight combination – the Instinct 3 can get more than five times the battery life when in GPS mode through solar charging than the Instinct 2 Solar. AMOLED versions, meanwhile, get up to 24 days on a single charge in smart watch mode.

As you’d expect from a Garmin smartwatch it’s packed with health-focused features, including a full step tracker, heart rate monitor and a morning report which produces a detailed guide on how the wearer has slept.

Smart notifications allow the wearer to receive emails, texts and other alerts via the watch when linked up to an Apple or Android smartphone while Garmin’s Messenger app allows communication between friends and family via a two-way text messaging service from the watch. Payments are made easy through Garmin Pay contactless payments, too.

One of the standout features of the new Instinct 3 is an integrated torch, which projects at different intensities as well as a red light and strobe mode to help illuminate hard-to-see areas during your next adventure.

The new Garmin Instinct 3 will be available to order from January 10 with prices starting at £349.99 for solar models or £389.99 for AMOLED versions.
