Merrell has cast a line into the world of fly fishing with a new series of pieces.
Taking on-board the ‘zen-like mental state’ of the fly fisher, the new collection has the rugged, go-anywhere capability that is required by this back-to-nature sport.

Things kick off with the Agility Peak 5 Zero GTX Zip Off shoe, which incorporates a Gore-Tex engineered mesh but underneath you’ll find a chunky base-trail-inspired base. The mesh lining helps to keep things breezy, too, while a Vibram Megagrip outsole should help to deliver excellent traction even in tricky conditions. Plus, there’s a lightweight FloatPro midsole for extra comfort when on the move.

Up next is the Hydro Next Gen boot, which arrives as ‘the most progressive Hydro product to date’ with a design that mimics the look of running water in a mountain stream. With a lightweight waterproof Bloom EVA foam upper it’s ready for those sudden downpours, while a FloatMax midsole comes with a full rubber outsole to create a shoe that is ready for all occasions.
Finally, there’s a showerproof version of the famous Hut Moc packable. It’s billed as a key addition to the wardrobe of the fly fisher and, just like the regular Hut Moc, is easy to transport and receives a nylon ripstop upper with zippers that allow the two shoes to be fastened together. The particular version gets a 100 per cent recycled breathable mesh lining and a 30 per cent recycled EVA foam insole. As with others here, there’s a Bloom performance midsole with foam that gets 10 per cent algae biomass.
