Vans has collaborated with London-based collective Motherlan to create a limited-edition collection of shoes. 

The series is based around the Half Cab and Old Skool, both of which get a brand-new look and feel for this reissue. The Half Cab, for instance, gains some inspiration from the Motherlan’s own designs, as well as translucent stained-glass waffle soles and materials that take Nigerian camouflage and bring it into a more artistic space. 

As with the standard Half Cab, you’re still getting a mid-top design with a durable and hard-wearing finish. Inside, PopCush insoles bring added protection from impacts while skating and the DuraCap underlays add durability. The padded collar helps to boost comfort and add some protection and support, too. 

Originally founded in Nigeria in 2018 by skateboarders, Motherlan switched its home from Lagos to London and has collaborated with a number of other brands, including Dr.Martens. 

It’s a combination of Vans design, London creativity and Lagos skate culture which comes through in both of these new shoes. 

You’ve also got the Premium Old Skool model. With a monotone design, it’s an instant head-turner, while a variety of graffiti-inspired tags draw on Motherlan’s collaborative approach.
