Adidas Terrex has added a new model to its popular Freehiker range with the new 3 Ultra.

Taking on the usually lightweight approach that we’ve come to expect from the Freehiker line-up, the new 3 Ultra aims to bring as much comfort as possible while still providing the support that is required on the trails. 

As with other Freehiker models, the new 3 Ultra has a Gore-Tex liner to help repel water yet ensure that moisture can still escape. Underneath, there’s a tried-and-tested Hyperboost Pro midsole that you’ll find on many of the Adidas running shoes. Dreamstrike+ foam is there to provide plenty of bounce, too. 

Providing traction is a Continental rubber outsole with chunky lugs designed to key into loose surfaces. 

A raised collar should bring added ankle support yet because of its thin construction, it shouldn’t add too much weight. In fact, Adidas says that they come in at just 343g, so they’re significantly lighter than your traditional hiking boot. 

From the outside, you can see a closeness between the design of the Freehiker 3 Ultra and many of the Adidas running shoe range. It’s also available in both men’s and women’s sizing, while a standout ‘Collegiate Green’ does, in our eyes, look absolutely fantastic. 

Priced at £180, the Freehiker 3 Ultra looks to be another solid entry into the Adidas range of hiking boots. As we’ve found, it’s probably best to go up by half a size on your usual to ensure the best fit.
