The very best adventure gear taken to the most amazing of places

Fjallraven’s line-up of outdoor clothing is all about that assured, no-nonsense quality that gives the impression of an everlasting ability. In fairness, that does sometimes come at the expense of weight, but these trousers – the Fjallraven Keb Agile Winter trousers – are designed to offer a more lightweight take on the typical Fjallraven setup, albeit one that still keeps the cold at bay.

While it might be the rugged Vidda Pro trousers which most people think of when imagining Fjallraven’s range, the Keb Agile Winter take a slightly different approach by being more lightweight and, as a result, a little more free-moving. With a level of stretch integrated into them, the Keb Agile Winter could be a good option for a variety of outdoor pursuits, ranging from dayhikes to walks with the dog on a misty day. These winter-friendly versions are naturally angled more towards chillier adventures – the ‘regular’ Keb Agile will be a better choice for warmer climates.

They incorporate plenty of additional reinforcement, too, which should help these trousers fend off scrapes and grazes when you’re on the move. Plus, there is a great variety of colourways to choose from – ranging from more traditional olive shades to eye-catching ‘dark navy and indigo blue’ – so that you can always find a pair of Fjallraven Keb Agile hat will match your character.

What have the Fjallraven Keb Agile Winter got to offer?

There are plenty of plus points to investigate on the Keb Agile Winters. For one, their double-woven stretch material basing means that they’re ideal for scrambling or other movement-heavy requirements. They’ve got a double-weave, four-way stretch material, with a brushed lining which brings additional comfort and warmth. With their pocket-heavy design, you shouldn’t be short of places to store your must-have kit close to hand.

The material overall is lightweight but there is that added reinforcement in key areas. You’ve also got some zippered sections at the sides of the trousers to let more air in, which could prove incredibly helpful when the temperatures rise. However, even when it’s chilly these zips don’t let in much air when they’re closed, so this extra versatility doesn’t come at the expense of comfort during colder months.

At £250, the Keb Agiles are accompanied by a premium price, but we expect them to wear well given the rest of Fjallraven’s clothing range. They’re available in both men’s and women’s styles, too, with a good range of colours being offered in both.

Wearing – what are they like?

Straight out of the box, you can tell that the Keb Agile Winter trousers are designed to be reasonably lightweight. The primary material of the trousers is relatively thin, but that added reinforcement does provide some reassurance that they’ll stand up to nicks and grazes when trekking through more rugged terrains. The brushed inside adds an extra layer of comfort and warmth, too.

The fit is pretty regular, too. We’ve got handy loops so you can wear a proper belt and the main zips and buttons all have a solid, dependable feel to them. You can get the men’s Keb Agile trousers in three lengths, too – 30-inch, 32-inch and 34-inch – so there should be a length for most wearers. There’s plenty of stretch to them in the knees – the waist, less so – so when you’re crouching or leaning forward the trousers do offer some forgiveness and more freedom of movement than you might typically expect from a trouser like this.

Pockets-wise? In truth, it can be easy to lose your gear given the sheer number of places to store them in the Keb Agile trousers. The thigh pockets are brilliantly located and mean that you can access them when sitting down, too, so you don’t need to get up from your seat in order to reach a map or a phone. That said, it would be nice to have some backpockets – without them, you almost feel a little bare – but we’d imagine that having these would reduce the flexibility of the trousers overall.

To wear, the Keb Agiles certainly don’t look too hardcore, and while the brighter colourways might look a little out of place down at the local cafe, more subdued shades are unlikely to attract that much attention.

Fjallraven makes no bones about these trousers being primarily designed for colder conditions, but we’ve found that they’ve stood up remarkably well to warmer temperatures too. If you’re going to some seriously cold areas then you could have enough room to put some additional insulation underneath, and you could even opt for Fjallraven’s own Keb Insulated trousers, though at £195 you’re looking at an expensive setup overall when combined with these Agiles. An alternative might be to opt for the popular Vidda Pros, which come with a thicker grade of material but, naturally, carry a weight penalty and weigh in at 645g – quite a bit more than these Keb Agiles.

To finish

The Keb Agile from Fjallraven are a great all-rounder pair of trousers. They’re going to prove reliable when it gets chilly, but thanks to the integrated ventilation pockets there’s no reason why you couldn’t wear them if things turn out a bit warmer. Lightweight and flexible, they’re good for all manner of pursuits and their number of colourways means that you’ll be able to find a pair that looks just right for you easily.

At £250, they’re not cheap, but given their multi-purpose attributes, you could say they represent decent value. As touched upon, the Vidda Pros might be a more heavyweight option, but for more ‘everyday’ adventures, these Keb Agile Winter trousers won’t let you down.
