The very best adventure gear taken to the most amazing of places

Berlin-based cycling brand Standert has released a pair of new colourways for its no-nonsense Kettensäge gravel race bike.

Starting life as a bike shop and cafe in 2012, Standert has now expanded to be one of the key creators of steel and aluminium road and gravel bikes, shunning more modern materials in favour of the assured performance of these tried-and-tested metals.

It’s the latter that you’ll find used on the Kettensäge with a full tubing setup taken from the firm’s Kreissäge RS performance road bike. Hand-built in Italy, the Kettensäge – or ‘chainsaw’, in German – get a host of high-tech features including SLT CeramicSpeed bearings for no-nonsense smoothness and a Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) that makes swapping out a damaged derailleur easy.

A tyre width of 45mm provides assured handling, but you’ll also find a range of long-distance-focused features such as a top tube snag back mount so you’ll never be left hungry when out on the trails.

It’s available with Sram’s Force D2 XPLR or Red AXS XPLR groupsets while Shimano’s GRX Di2 setup or Force D2 provide another option for those who want one.

The two new colourways – Cherry Kiss red and beige Team – give the Kettensäge an even more stand-out appearance and are teamed with some equally eye-catching graphics. Both have been put to the test at the recent Road to Desolation gravel race in South Africa, too, which saw both bikes undertake a 111-mile race through the Karoo desert.

Prices for the Kettensäge kick off from €2,199 for the frameset, rising to €5,399 for the Sram or Shimano-equipped full setups. Check them out via Standert’s website.
