The very best adventure gear taken to the most amazing of places

It’s not often that you get a dive watch which is actively helping to reduce plastic waste, but that’s just the case with Garmin’s new Descent G1 Solar Ocean Edition.

It’s a watch-style dive computer ‘with features for both underwater and topside adventures’ that has a housing, bezel and buttons created from 100 per cent recycled ocean-bound plastics. But as well as its sea-friendly materials, the Ocean Edition also has a solar charging lens that gives up to 25 hours of battery life in dive mode or up to 124 days in regular smartwatch mode when using the sun for charge.

Gamin says that the Descent takes away the need for a separate dive computer and smartwatch, with this ‘multisport’ device packed with features that can help when you’re out of the water, too.

Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales, said: “We are proud to unveil our first-ever product with parts made with recycled ocean-bound plastics. With the Descent G1 Solar – Ocean Edition, we’re taking materials that were once at risk of harming the ocean habitat and turning them into parts to help create an eco-friendly dive computer that’s made to explore it.”

Ideal for all types of water-based activities, the Descent has multiple dive modes for single and multiple gas gives and can even track your dive entry and exit points via surface GPS. Then, once you’re done, it can store and review the data from up to 200 dives via Garmin’s app.

You can get nearby tide conditions directly to the watch, too, while 30 built-in sports apps allow you to track your movements and activities. Plus, with Garmin Pay, you can use the Descent to conduct contactless payments too.

There’s just one size, which features a 45mm reinforced polymer case with a water rating of 100 metres tested to US military standards. There’s just one colour available, too and, you guessed it, it’s blue.

The Descent G1 Solar Ocean Edition is available to buy now, priced at £569.99.
