Google’s new Pixel Watch 2 has finally dropped, bringing a range of improvements over the original wearable. 

Built from recycled aluminium which, according to Google, is 10 per cent lighter than the original Pixel Watch, the new version also features a larger crown and has been designed to be even more comfortable. So much so that you can wear it while you’re sleeping, apparently. 

The meat of the Google Pixel Watch 2 is a new quad-core processor for better performance, but it’s now able to deliver up to 24 hours of battery life even when the display is permanently on. Plus, quicker charging means that the Google Pixel Watch 2 can be charged up to 50 per cent in just 30 minutes. 

A trio of new sensors work inside the new Pixel Watch 2. There’s a new heart rate sensor to produce more accurate heart rate readings than before, while Fitbit’s Body Response feature is also integrated into the Pixel Watch 2 to highlight possible signs of stress. It uses heart rate, heart rate variability and skin temperature to work this out. Should it notice your stress levels rising, the watch can prompt you to ‘reflect on how you feel at that moment or take actions to reduce your stress’. 

The skin temperature sensor also works at night to help track your sleep and monitor overall wellness during the night. You can check it quickly via the Google Assistant app, too, to get your daily ‘Sleep Score’. 

A new Heart Rate Zone Coaching is a new feature to help track workouts and can alert you when you’ve entered a new heart rate zone during a workout. It can also track activities such as running and outdoor cycling. 

You’ll be able to pair the Pixel Watch 2 with the latest Fitbit app on your smartphone for access to a wider range of functions and each watch comes with six months of Fitbit Premium included as well. Six new watch face ‘families’ are available while there are loads of strap colours to choose from as well. 

The new Google Pixel Watch 2 will hit the market priced from £339, or £379 for the 4G-enabled version.
