Hoka has introduced a new instalment of its Tecton X trail running shoe series. 

The new Tecton X 4 follows on from the X 3 model and brings a range of refinements designed to help this trainer go further for longer across a variety of terrains. 

Priced at £220 and available in both men’s and women’s sizes, the new Tecton x 4 gets a new Profly X series design which incorporates carbon plating, ‘max-energy’ foams and revised geometry to make runners quicker and more comfortable. The Profly X system is designed to work through the ‘full gait cycle’ allowing for a comfortable push-off with plenty of stability under load. 

The Tecton X 4 incorporates dual layers of Hoka’s PEBA foam in the midsole while parallel carbon plates ensure high levels of efficiency and energy transfer. There’s also a speed-focused MetaRocker, which should get you moving forward more effectively. 

With uppers crafted from breathable Matryx Micro material and an extended knit collar – as was the case with the Tecton X 3 – the new X 4 should be a good option in warmer climates as well. Hoka has also updated the lacing design to bring a more secure fit over the X 3. 

Underneath you’ll find a Vibram Megagrip Litebase sole and 4mm traction lugs for better traction over loose surfaces. Hoka says that the Litebase sole reduces the outsole thickness by up to 50 per cent while dropping weight by up to 30 per cent. In all, the Tecton X 4 weighs in at 275g for a men’s size 10. 

Available in frost/neon tangerine colourways, the new Hoka Tecton X 4 will launch both online and in stores on August 20.
