Nanamica has partnered with Japanese organic cotton specialists Pristine on an eco-friendly clothing collection.

Launched in 1996, Pristine specialises in organic cotton and has made numerous commitments to ‘green’ manufacturing processes, including the use of ladybugs as natural pest deterrents when growing organic cotton.

The new team-up with Nanamica has resulted in a fresh collection which brings a shared endeavour to reduce marine pollution through the use of environmentally friendly products all wrapped in the brand’s usual blend of stripped-back design with true functionality at its heart. 

Based around a zip-up stand collar jacket and a fleece coat, the new pieces both incorporate a number of eco-friendly processes. Each get reversible designs, too, including a short-pile wool exterior and an interior made from organic cotton. Even the zipper on the stand collar jacket is made from recycled polyester. 

The fleece, meanwhile, draws many of the features that you’d expect from an outer coat, including a deep front overlap and adjustable cuff buttons. 

You’ll find Pristine’s ‘Real Fleece’ material being used in both. Essentially, it means that they use a material sheared from a single sheep which is created using wool fibres which are entangled to create a single sheet, rather than interwoven with polyester. It’s all-natural, too and gets a ‘soft, fluffy texture’, according to Pristine. 

The brand says that since the material doesn’t use any polyester it doesn’t release microplastics during the washing process. This, in turn, reduces the number of microplastics filtering into the water chain.
