We’re kicking off the start of the autumn season with something a little different. Here at GS we’re always on the lookout for new music to accompany a hike, a workout or just a stroll through the local woodlands. For September, we’ve got some great new tracks that are well worth checking out and you’ll find a Spotify link to each of them below.

Palace – Son (Live at EartH)

We’ve been big fans of soulful London-based four-piece Palace for a long while now. With classics like ‘Live Well’ and ‘Bitter’ still atop their most-listened-to tracks, Palace has released a new, calming addition. ‘Son’ has all the hallmarks of a true classic, with a slow, building progression which will no doubt get you thinking while you’re listening. 

Recorded at Evolutionary Arts Hackney, ‘Son’ is an impactful new addition to Palace’s catalogue and one that we’re sure will go on to be just as big of a hit as the band’s previous tracks. 

Skinshape – Lady Sun

Skinshape ‘Lady Sun’ breaks in with sunny, laid-back appeal that feels as though it can channel some much-needed sunshine into the wet and windy start to the UK’s autumn period. With Hollie Cook’s slinky vocals and a bouncing background, ‘Lady Sun’ is the kind of song to inspire thoughts of warmer climates. 

So though the rain might be beating down outside, ‘Lady Sun’ is the ideal tune to let roll out. 

Pale Jay – For James

Straight from Pale Jay’s 2021 album ‘The Celestial Suite’, ‘For James’ is a sauntering, melodic anthem that feels like a velvet sofa gliding through the airwaves. It’s easy to hear Pale Jay’s jazz training filtering through into ‘For James’ and with a touch of 1960s warmth and nostalgia to it, it’s easily proven as one of our favourites lately. 

At just over one minute and 20 seconds it’s not one to overstay its welcome, but while it is here ‘For James’ makes a big impact. 

Dream, Ivory – Sometimes I Wonder

‘Sometimes I Wonder’ feels as though it has come straight from an early 90s indi picture, rather than Dream, Ivory’s self-titled album from 2017. With a moody, progressive sound, ‘Sometimes I Wonder’ blends jangling guitars with a dream-like background to create a track which could prove the ideal accompaniment to a dramatic walk through the mountains. 

While Dream, Ivory’s album has many standout tracks, it feels as though ‘Sometimes I Wonder’ is the one to blend all of the best bits into one stellar song. 

Marlon Craft – World Champ

Straight from 2022’s ‘While We’re Here’ comes Marlon Craft’s ‘World Champ’. The New York rapper’s quick-fire lyrics feel ideally draped over the old-school background track, with a combination of horns and strings bringing a delightfully classic feel to this new-school track. 

We’re big fans of the hard cut-off finish to the song, too; it doesn’t drag on as is sometimes the case.
