We can always rely on Bang & Olufsen for a classily-designed speaker and it hasn’t disappointed with a new aluminium version of its Beosound A5.
Combining modern and classic elements, the new Beosound A5 Spaced Aluminium features a grille made from the lightweight material which is hand-finished at the firm’s site in Denmark before it heads out to customers. The grille itself is made from more than 3,500 individual aluminium discs, too, which help to give it that ‘floating’ appearance.

Michael Henriksson, vice president of product marketing at B&O, said: “We have worked with different circular patterns across our speaker grille designs for many years. It has become a signature, but this is a brand-new style.
“Usually, the circular shape is the hole in which sound flows through a speaker grille, whereas here we flipped the idea on its head and made the circular shape the central attraction and the sound flows out around it, effectively inverting our past design to create something different and striking.”
“The look of the “floating discs” is created using a second layer of aluminium, carefully designed in a grid behind the surface to create the optical illusion and let the sound flow through”.

You can still get the Beosound A5 in its more traditional finishes – Nordic Weave and Dark Oak – but this new aluminium treatment means there’s something for the more future-loving sound-searchers out there.
The Beosound A5 itself is designed to ‘sit at the junction where portable and home audio meet’, meaning that it can be carried throughout different areas of the home to provide a high-quality sound wherever it is placed. It’s got 12 hours of playtime, too, and there’s an integrated wireless phone charger on its top.
